Principles of Biomedical Science (PLTW) (#7606)

Designed to develop analyzing outbreaks, clinical empathy, health promotion, and more; students explore a range of biomedical sciences careers.

Term:  Full Year Credits:  1.0 Grade:  11th - 12th


Principles of Health Informatics (#7624)

Designed to be introduced to one of the fastest growing areas in the health industry profession, developing knowledge in data generated systems.

Term:  Full Year Credits:  1.0 Grade:  9th - 12th


Principles of Health Science (#7600)

Designed to overview therapeutic, diagnostic, health informatics, support services, and biotechnology research and development systems of healthcare.

Term:  Full Year Credits:  1.0 Grade:  9th - 10th


Anatomy and Physiology (Advanced Science) (#7608)

Designed to develop analyzing outbreaks, clinical empathy, health promotion, and more; students explore a range of biomedical sciences careers.

Term:  Full Year Credits:  1.0 Grade:  10th - 12th

Prerequisites:  Biology and a second Science credit

Special Notes:  This course satisfies a high school mathematics graduation requirement. This course is available for Dual Credit. Please see your counselor.


Biomedical Innovation (PLTW) (#7615)

Designed to build on previous courses to design their own innovative solutions for the most pressing health challenges of the 21st century. 

Term:  Full Year Credits:  1.0 Grade:  11th - 12th


Health Science Theory (#7601)

Designed to develop advanced knowledge and skills to include hands-on experience related to a wide variety of health careers.

Term:  Full Year Credits:  1.0 Grade:  10th - 12th

Prerequisites:  One credit from Health Science program of study and Biology

Special Notes:  Additionally, students may be required to pass a safety test(s) demonstrating 100% mastery.


Health Science Theory/Health Science Clinical (#7602)

 

Designed to acquire advanced knowledge and skills related to a variety of health careers employing hands-on experiences for career development.

Term:  Full Year Credits:  2.0 Grade:  10th - 12th

Prerequisites:  Biology

Special Notes:  This course is available for Dual Credit. Please see your counselor. Students may be required to pass a safety test(s) demonstrating 100% mastery. Students may be required to complete a physical and specific immunizations.


Human Body Systems (PLTW) (#7613)

 

Designed to use forensic anthropology and DNA to examine interactions of human body systems and apply to solve real-world medical cases.

Term:  Full Year Credits:  1.0 Grade:  10th - 12th


Medical Interventions (PLTW) (#7614)

Designed to create projects such as a prosthetic arm and using a fictitious family to investigate how to prevent, diagnose and treat disease.

Term:  Full Year Credits:  1.0 Grade:  10th - 12th


Medical Microbiology (#7610)

Designed to explore pathogenic and non-pathogenic microorganisms, laboratory procedures, microorganisms, drug resistant organisms, and diseases.

Term:  Full Year Credits:  1.0 Grade:  10th - 12th

Prerequisites:  Recommended:  Biology and Chemistry.  A course from the Health Science cluster.

Special Notes:  Students must meet the 40% laboratory and fieldwork requirement. This course satisfies a science credit requirement for students on the Foundation High School Program.


Medical Terminology (#7605)

Designed to achieve comprehension of medical vocabulary appropriate to medical procedures, human anatomy and physiology, and pathophysiology.

Term:  Full Year Credits:  1.0 Grade:  9th - 12th

Special Notes:  This course is available for Dual Credit. Please see your counselor.


Pathophysiology (#7607)

 

Designed to conduct laboratory and field investigations studying how disease affects humans emphasizing prevention and treatment of disease.

Term:  Full Year Credits:  1.0 Grade:  11th - 12th

Prerequisites:  Biology and Chemistry.  Recommended:  A course from the Health Science cluster.


Pharmacology (#7609)

 

Designed to study how natural and synthetic chemical agents such as drugs affect biological systems.

Term:  Full Year Credits:  1.0 Grade:  11th - 12th

Prerequisites:  Biology and Chemistry.  Recommended:  A course from the Health Science cluster.


Practicum in Health Science (#7603)

 

Designed to acquire opportunities to participate in a learning experience that combines classroom instruction with culinary industry career experiences.

Term:  Full Year Credits:  2.0 Grade:  12th

Prerequisites:   Recommended: Health Science Theory, and Biology

Special Notes:  This course is available for Dual Credit. Please see your counselor. Students may be required to pass a safety test(s) demonstrating 100% mastery. Students may be required to complete a physical and specific immunizations.


Practicum in Health Science Extended (First Time Taken) (#7604)

 

Designed to acquire opportunities to participate in a learning experience that combines classroom instruction with culinary industry career experiences.

Term:  Full Year Credits:  3.0 Grade:  11th - 12th

Prerequisites:   Recommended: Health Science Theory, and Biology.  Corequisite:  Practicum in Health Science

Special Notes:  This course is available for Dual Credit. Please see your counselor.


Practicum in Health Science Extended (Second Time Taken) 

Designed to give students practical application of previously studied knowledge and skills. Practicum experiences can occur in a variety of locations appropriate to the nature and level of experience.

Term:  Full Year Credits:  3.0 Grade:  11th - 12th

Prerequisites:   Recommended: Health Science Theory, and Biology.  Corequisite:  Practicum in Health Science


Disaster Response (#7611)

Designed to explore the microbial world topics such as microorganisms, laboratory procedures, drug resistant organisms, and diseases.

Term:  Full Year Credits:  1.0 Grade:  11th - 12th

Prerequisites:   Biology and Chemistry.  Recommended:  A course in the Health Science cluster.
